The HBO series will begin airing its sixth season on October 18, 2017.
In honor of the show’s 30th anniversary, Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive first look at the upcoming season of Game of Thrones.
The trailer for Season 6 opens with an image of a man standing on the roof of a tower with the words “I have seen many a night on the Citadel.”
“It is time,” the image says.
“A new king has arisen.
And it will be your turn.”
The season begins with Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), the new queen of the Seven Kingdoms, taking to the throne in the wake of the death of her father, King Tommen, who was also killed by Ramsay Bolton (Peter Dinklage).
The show has already revealed that the second season will include the return of the main character, Tyrion Lannister, who has been missing since the finale of Season 5.
The show’s writers also confirmed that the show will have its own spinoff, a spinoff starring Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Littlefinger (Adrianne Palicki).
Season 6 also marks the return to the series of Jon Snow, who previously played the show-off to the show.
The actor also stars as a knight on a dragon in the upcoming sixth season.
“Season 6 will bring the most thrilling, complex, and dramatic adventure we’ve ever done,” HBO programming president Casey Bloys said in a statement.
“We’re going to do more than just reprise the unforgettable characters and scenes from the past six seasons.”
Game of Throne Season 6 is directed by David Benioff, with the show co-executive producers D.B. Weiss and David Benner, as well as the Game of thrones writers.
